Hypnotherapy FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy (SFH):

1. What is Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy is a modern therapeutic approach that combines Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), neuroscience, and hypnosis. It helps clients focus on solutions rather than problems, aiming to create positive change by using the subconscious mind in a relaxed, focused state.

2. How is it different from traditional hypnotherapy?

Unlike traditional hypnotherapy, which may explore past trauma or deep-seated issues, SFH emphasises:

  • The present and future
  • Client strengths and resources
  • Encouraging the client to visualize and move toward their desired outcomes

3. What issues can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy help with?

It is effective for a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Phobias
  • Smoking cessation
  • Weight management
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Pain management
  • Performance enhancement (e.g., sports, public speaking)
  • School avoidance and transitions

4. What happens in a typical session?

A typical session includes:

  1. Initial consultation to discuss the current issue and outcome required. Including a detailed explanation on how I can support.
  2. Therapeutic dialogue using Solution Focused questions.
  3. Guided hypnosis to reinforce positive changes and encourage relaxation.

5. Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state of awareness. You remain in control at all times and cannot be made to do anything against your will. Very similar to daydreaming.

6. How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the issue and individual progress. SFH is designed to be brief and goal-focused, so many clients see significant improvement in 6 to 12 sessions. Some issues like smoking may require fewer.

7. Is it safe?

Yes, SFH is safe and non-invasive. It is based on evidence-based psychological and neurological principles and conducted by trained professionals.

8. Do I need to believe in hypnosis for it to work?

No strong belief is necessary. A willingness to participate and an open mind are more important than belief.

9. Can anyone be hypnotised?

Most people can enter a hypnotic state if they are willing to engage with the process. It’s a natural state similar to daydreaming.

10. Is it suitable for children or teens?

Yes, SFH can be very effective for young people, especially with anxiety, school stress, or confidence issues. A trained practitioner will tailor sessions appropriately.
