There is an element to life that quietly chants that everyone else has their s**t together whilst you feel like your failing or slowly falling apart.
I have had so many of these moments in that space of self comparison that doubt crept in via a perfect Instagram post or a conversation of ideas that made me question that I do no do enough.
The evidence suggests otherwise, the difficulty is that we are not designed for happiness, joy and proof of fulfilment. We are designed for threat and risk assessment. Even more so if we feel stress, worry and overwhelm.
One way through business and daily life that I have supported myself to stay in check is to look at things day to day.
“ Just for today”.
If I can complete task today and not feel like I needed to do more then I am teaching my brain that I have achieved enough.
The difficult part is expectation versus reality. Especially if you have a distorted concept of time and achievement. This!!
Take time to look at the day tasks and be honest about how much time you know they will actually take and block it. Either mentally or on your phone.
I am rubbish at factoring in breaks so sometimes we need these reminders too.
When we take the time to look at things day to day it gives the brain chance to process more efficiently. More importantly register the achievement, no matter how small.
At the end of the day ask yourself:
“ What has been good today?”
“ What small thing do I want to do differently tomorrow?”
Take time to acknowledge it and read it back.
