What is hypnotherapy?

When people ask me what I do, there is usually the intrigued view that I can somehow make people do things that they don’t want to, involving a ticking clock and some random words, all from my little consultation room in Bourne, Lincolnshire.

So what is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is talk therapy that utilises trance (relaxed focused attention) to support the brain to make more positive choices, but more importantly, to support the rewiring of neurotransmitters and increase the production of serotonin.

The intellectual brain

The intellectual brain supports positive choices and enables access to the vast intellectual resource that helps us to be in control, and do all of the things we want to do. This area of the brain is available when we have a constant flow of serotonin, which can be created through positive action, positive interaction and positive thought.

The primitive brain

When we are in a primitive space, we are always looking for something going wrong in the future or thinking about things that have happened to us in the past. The constant flow of negative thought can then trigger the amygdala, which accesses the negative response system stored in the hippocampus.

Anger, anxiety and depression are our primitive responses when this happens.

If we are constantly on high alert, which increases our adrenalin and cortisol, then we can respond in these ways more than we want to.

How does hypnotherapy help?

Clinical Hypnotherapy has the ability to support clients to spend more time in their intellectual brain.

This supports better choices and more importantly help those choices to ‘stick’. This creates new pathways, new habits and a new mindset.

Change only happens when we are in control and having a consistent flow of serotonin.

Utiltising my free relaxation download can support the brain to relax and more importantly achieve better REM sleep.

REM sleeps supports the brain to process the thoughts of the day so having the ability to relax and support this system can be beneficial to reduce stress and more importantly wake up ready for the day.
